chocolate covered strawberries & pretzels


Happy belated Valentine’s Day!


In case you’re having a belated Valentine’s celebration, or you just feel like treating yourself, I highly recommend making these yourself! I couldn’t stomach the idea of paying 40 bucks for Edible Arrangements to make something that should really only cost about $5.

Strawberries are probably even on sale now that the V-day craze is over.


All you need: strawberries, a tad bit of oil, and some chocolate.


Sad news: I tried to do some with white chocolate chips, and it was a miserable failure. The white chocolate wouldn’t melt the same. It was too runny and just wouldn’t stick to the strawberries. Bummer : (


Chocolate covered pretzels, on the other hand, came out AMAZING. Dipping these little guys one by one was a little tedious, but it was worth it. Plus, they’re conveniently sort of heart-shaped.

Also, random side note: I always find myself suckered into the dollar bins at Target. Seriously. Every single time. These heart-shaped sprinkles were courtesy of said bins. Taste-wise, I actually think they detract. But they were just too pretty not to use.


Feel free to lick up the extra chocolate. Don’t let any of that go to waste.


And wait excitedly while they cool in the fridge. (See the far left for the failed white chocolate strawberries. They just look sad, right?)




Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Pretzels


1 package of organic strawberries

1/2 a bag of dark chocolate chips

1/2 a bag of pretzels


Parchment or wax paper

Toppings of choice (shredded coconut, crushed walnuts, sprinkles, whatever your heart desires!)

Tear a piece of parchment of wax paper large enough to cover a baking sheet. Set aside.

Wash strawberries well. Thoroughly dry with paper towels. (It’s importantly that they be completely dry so the chocolate sticks properly!) Leave the stems/leaves on.

Melt chocolate either over a double boiler or in the microwave. I did the double boiler option– I got a pot of hot water boiling, and on top of that I placed a stainless steel bowl with my chocolate chips. I added 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, but other types of oil will probably be fine. Whisk together the chocolate and oil until chocolate melts and is smooth.

Dip strawberries into chocolate and place on parchment/wax paper. Do the same with pretzels. Sprinkle on toppings.

Transfer baking sheet into the fridge to cool for about an hour.
